Ann Demeulemeester founded her eponymous label in Antwerp in 1985 with her partner, photographer Patrick Robyn. A member of the Antwerp Six, she built a house defined by dark romanticism — deconstructed form, an austere monochrome palette and a poetic, androgynous restraint.
