Maison Margiela's Ribbed Beanie comes in charcoal, a wool and alpaca knit cap with long ear flaps. Crown sits domed and close, ribbed vertically, with flaps that drop well past the jaw on either side. Alpaca brushes the surface into a soft halo, so the rib reads blurred rather than sharp, and the yarn holds air rather than weight. Four white stitches sit exposed at the back of the crown, the only mark on a plain charcoal ground. Wear it with the flaps loose over a heavy overcoat, or tucked into a collar.
