Enfants Riches Déprimés was founded in late 2012 by artist and designer Henri Alexander Levy, who began the label while studying art at UCLA. Translating as "depressed rich kids," the brand operates between Los Angeles and Paris and is built on what Levy calls "elitist punk", an aesthetic shaped by 1970s French punk, 1980s Japanese avant-garde, and conceptual art.
The t-shirts are where the brand first drew attention. Each piece is treated as an artwork, with hand-distressed finishing, painted and printed graphics drawn from Levy's own archive of sketches, and references that range from punk band imagery to literary and political slogans. Produced in limited quantities, the tees carry the brand's lived-in, deliberately raw finish.
