Acne Studios was founded in 1996 in Stockholm by Jonny Johansson, and denim is where the house began — its first release was 100 pairs of raw jeans with distinctive red stitching, given to friends and the city's creative set. Denim remains the brand's founding language.
The collection is organised around Acne Studios' signature numbered fits: the 1981, a low-to-mid-rise loose jean with a wide, baggy leg; the 2021, a regular fit with a mid waist and wide straight leg; and the loose, super-baggy unisex 2023. The house is also known for its trompe-l'œil denim — prints that mimic paint splatters, pinstripes or worn carpenter detailing — alongside seasonal washes, raw selvedge and five-pocket construction.
